New IP, who dis?
127.0.0.1 is where the heart is

Apparently, in the year of our lawd 2024, vDSL is still a thing. Oh sure, British Telecom advertises the internet out here as 'Fibre 1'. But it's definitely old copper wire carrying the World Wide Web to my desktop.

Unfortunately, fast internet isn't possible in my new home. Proper gigabit fibre is several years away, and we now live where cell coverage fears to tread. So the only viable option for decent internet was to slap a Starlink dish on the garage and hope that rich weirdo's attention stays on Twitter/X.

Who is active on the internet at 3am? I bet it's those 'arr kids again! 🏴‍☠️

So far, I have to say the Starlink connection has been solid. My download speeds range from 240Mbps to 40Mbps, which is double what I got from the BT connection. I'm actually hosting this website from home. Starlink utilizes CGNAT, which can be a pain if you're running your own websites and services. Thankfully, Cloudflare tunnels are now a thing, and all it cost me was an evening to configure.
